The daily news cycle we face and cover: African Americans killed by police, Latinx immigrant children locked in cages, LGBTQ rights under siege, victims of sexual harassment, assault and rape recounting chilling stories, racist and sexist microaggressions via tweet. Add to that COVID-19, gun violence and the daily routine of crime, courts and social issues. This news environment can be challenging for any journalist – and may be especially distressing for journalists of color who see their faces in so many of today’s stories. In this 90-minute event we will discuss trauma and journalism, introduce best practices in coverage and the basics of self care and resilience.
