Jan Šmid, currently Head of Foreign News Department at the Czech Radio’s Radiozurnal, was a permanent correspondent for Czech Radio in the United States (1991-1998) and in France (2003). He was the Editor-in-Chief of the weekly newspaper Nedelni Noviny (1999-2000). He wrote several books about the United States and France, and is also the author of a biography of the Czech hockey player Jaromir Jagr. His work for Czech Television includes a series about French regions, Postrehy odjinud (“Views from Elsewhere”), and he also participated in the Czech TV’s travel program Cestomanie as a screenplay writer. Šmid earned his M.A. degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University in 1991.
