Milan Šmíd is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism of the Charles University’s Faculty of Social Sciences, where he has taught courses on television history and developments and foreign media since 1991. He earned his M.A. from the School of Social Sciences and Journalism at Charles University in 1970. Prior to joining the University in 1990, he worked for the former Czechoslovak Television station in several capacities, lastly in the Department of Foreign Programs. From 1990 to 1991, he was a member of an expert group organized by the federal government for the drafting the Czech Broadcasting Law. He wrote several studies on broadcasting legislation commissioned by the Czech parliament (on the regulation of broadcasting in Europe, on license fees, etc.). He has authored numerous studies and monographs on the transformation of the Czech electronic media, in Czech, German and English
