Internships
For journalism graduate students, one of the major benefits of living in New York City is the wide array of internships at prestigious magazines available throughout the school year. Internships are not required as part of the magazine program, but most students spend at least one semester in an editorial internship, which they can take for credit. NYU has developed strong relationships with editors and reporters at major media outlets and we help our students find placements.
While internship responsibilities vary depending on the publication, students often have the opportunity to write for magazine websites or print editions. Within the past few years, while attending NYU, magazine students have published stories in The New York Times, New York magazine, Rolling Stone, The Daily Beast, The New Yorker, Salon, Esquire, Slate, The New Republic, The Atlantic Monthly, the Village Voice, Outside and the Los Angeles Review of Books.
Students in Magazine and Digital Storytelling have recently interned at: Time, Esquire, Rolling Stone, New York Magazine, Salon, Sports Illustrated, Mashable, Marie Claire, Elle, Real Simple, Wired, Field & Stream, Town & Country, People, Good Housekeeping, Women’s Day, The New York Observer, National Geographic, Newsday, The New York Daily News and Time Out New York.
