  • Hyperlocal Newsroom Summer Academy 2012: Collaborating with the NYTimes in the Local East Village

Precollege | College

For everyone from raw journalism beginners to sophisticated young reporters, high school to college and college-bound, NYU Journalism’s Hyperlocal Newsroom Summer Academy will bring you into the world of new-age multimedia community journalism in one of New York’s most historic and culturally rich neighborhoods, The East Village, home to the NYU Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, whose faculty will be your guide.

The program revolves around the NYTimes.com site, The Local East Village, a collaboration between the Institute and The New York Times, which has become integral to the NYU Journalism curriculum all year. On this page, you will find the backstory of this innovation lab.

At the Academy, students will learn new techniques and sharpen their skills with opportunities to have their best work published on the Local East Village site. The bar is high for getting published but it is possible, as students already have shown. To give you an idea of additional summer publishing opportunities, here’s a link to last year’s Academy blog, The Village Beat.
