Precollege
With NYU Precollege, rising juniors and seniors can apply to take college-level courses for credit and experience life as an NYU student.

Our stellar faculty come to us from the top ranks of New York publishing and academia. Fulltime professors and working journalists, they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our classrooms each summer.
Undergraduate
NYU Summer Journalism invites visitors at large. International applicants, working professionals, and lifelong learners are welcome. Two- and four-credit options now available.
Admissions
Participate in the NYU experience online this summer with one of our intensive summer courses open to visiting students of all levels.

Session 2: Wednesday, July 2 – Wednesday, August 13, 2025
A: High school sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply to precollege classes. Occasionally, advanced students can enroll in an undergraduate course with permission. Email journalism.summer@nyu.edu to learn more.
Current high school seniors who will graduate prior to the start of a session will apply to courses here. For more details scroll down to the “College” section of this page for information that applies to you.
A: Yes! NYU Precollege has great opportunities for international students. International students are required to provide proof of English language proficiency as part of their application. You’ll find information about language and visa requirements here, but if you have questions, contact University Programs at university.programs@nyu.edu. Most Journalism courses are writing intensive, so your written English should be very strong.

A: All of our precollege courses count for four college credits; tuition for a four-credit class in 2025 is $7,664. Click here for full information on tuition and fees.
A: A limited number of scholarships are available in the summer to academically qualified students. Students may apply for need-based scholarship that covers up to 50% of Precollege tuition. If you are interested in applying for a summer scholarship, indicate your interest in the online Precollege admission application. More information can be found here. The scholarship deadline is April 1.

Please note: There are no prerequisites for summer courses for visiting students. If you are interested in taking one of the Inquiry or Beat courses (all in Session 1), please email journalism.summer@nyu.edu about assessing your previous journalism experience and whether the prerequisite noted in Albert can be waived. You will find information on how to register via Albert here. If you encounter problems when registering, contact Don Starr at das15@nyu.edu.

A: NYU and visiting students are eligible to enroll. You do not need to be a student at another institution to be eligible. Click here for full details.
A: Yes! Click here for more information. Most Journalism courses are writing intensive, so your written English should be very strong. Multimedia heavy courses (e.g., “The Beat: The Story We See” or “Inquiry: Multimedia”) typically require less writing.
A: You can apply online once the application becomes available, usually in early February. Follow the instructions found here. Please note: prerequisites noted in course descriptions do not apply except for current NYU students.
A: After you have applied and been admitted, a link to register for courses on Albert will be made available to you.
A: Most of our courses are four college credits; tuition for a four-credit class will be $7,664. We sometimes offer two-credit courses, which are 1/2 the four-credit cost. A list of tuition and fees per credit can be found here.
A: Most of our courses are four credits, but we sometimes offer two-credit classes; you can take up to eight credits per session.
