Course Number: JOUR-UA 301, section 6

Day & Time: Tue | 11:00 AM – 2:40 PM

Location: 20 Cooper Square, room 750

Instructor: Marcia Rock

Prerequisites: The Beat JOUR-UA 201 (Broadcast sections)

This is very much a workshop class in long form visual storytelling. Over the course of the semester, you will develop an idea, shoot and edit a 12 minute video piece. The topic should be something that truly interests you. We will spend three weeks on researching and developing the story, but it is important to start thinking about it now.

You will present your work five times during the course– reviewing your raw tapes, developing your story structure, script critiques, rough-cuts and final cuts.

Over the first two weeks you will produce a short 2 minute report so I can see your storytelling and technical skills. In the first few classes we will review camera, sound and editing techniques as well.

Notes: Required for students pursuing the broadcast track in the journalism major. Counts as an elective for both journalism minors.
