2026 - Fall
Podcast Lab is a production-centered course in which students take on one or two ambitious podcasting projects that sit at the intersection of editorial vision, audience strategy, and the business realities of the podcast industry. In the fall version of the course, students will ideally work in partnership with real-world media organizations or community partners to develop and produce one or two podcast projects that respond to an actual editorial, institutional, or audience need.
The course places reporting, writing, editing, sound design, and production skills in the context of real-world decisions about audience, distribution, editorial mission, workflow, and sustainability. Students will practice thinking like executive producers, responsible for both the first and last mile of a project: conceptualizing the podcast, shaping its voice and structure, managing its production, and helping it reach the people it is meant to serve.
Pitching stories to professional sites with an eye to publication is an integral part of this class. International students who wish to use the Curricular Practical Training option for this practicum class should contact the NYU Office of Global Services and NYU Journalism Career Services.
