Studio 20 2013
Job: Senior Designer at Washington Post
Location: New York, NY
Hometown: Santa Ynez, CA
What I Do Now
I work in the closest thing the Washington Post has to an R&D lab. We design and make prototypes of potential site features.
Before Studio 20
I was an ESL teacher and freelance journalist.
During Studio 20, I worked directly with…
ProPublica, Syria Deeply
Final Project Partner
Problem I helped solve…
Most people are coming in the middle of the movie: how do we catch them up? I experimented with editorial “onramps” to make complex stories more approachable for newcomers.
Professional hops since graduating…
I did a lot of freelancing the first year after graduating to get my coding skills up to snuff.
Why Studio 20
Studio 20 is an excellent environment where you can take take an idea and run with it. If you ask for Jay’s time he will give it to you, and give you excellent advice. The J-school and NYU as a whole is so rich with resources and helpful people that if you want to do something ambitious, you absolutely can. It was an incredible learning experience.
