Prerequisite: Journalistic Inquiry: The Written Word (JOUR-UA 101)
The goal of this course is to explore the impacts of race and gender in the coverage of campaigns
past and present. We will examine how the race and/or gender identity of candidates plays a role
in the coverage of and outcomes of races like the 2024 presidential, state-wide and down-ballot
races. We will also discuss how issues related to race and gender drive coverage, voter turnout
and voter behavior.
Notes: Counts as an elective for the journalism major and both journalism minors.
