About This Event

In 2018, when reporter Tessa Kramer was a graduate student, she began investigating the role that forensic scientist Mary Jane Burton played in the exonerations of 13 men in Virginia. Almost five years later, in February 2023, she published a 12-episode podcast based on this reporting — Admissible: Shreds of Evidence — with VPM – Virginia’s Home for Public Media, iHeart Media, and Story Mechanics (the production company of her graduate thesis advisor, Professor Ellen Horne, director of NYU’s Podcasting and Audio Reportage program). In this live event, Kramer will sit down with Professor Chenjerai Kumanyika, to share insights from her reporting and production process, and to talk about navigating ethical challenges in crime reporting.
