NYU Journalism undergraduate Payton Selby placed in the Top 20 in the Feature Writing Competition of the annual Hearst Awards.
She won for her article "Why Punchdrunk's Sleep No More is Still a Hot Ticket," which was published in October by the Observer.
Alexa Robles Gil and Anthony Esguerra awarded 2023 Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in the United States Scholarships
Alexa Robles Gil (SHERP) and Anthony Esguerra (Studio 20) are currently-enrolled students at NYU Journalism. 8 students enrolled in journalism master's programs across the U.S were awarded in total for this year.
NewsDoc Graduates Giorgio Ghiotto and Lyuwei Chen Take Home Two Student Academy Awards
Both alumni won in the documentary category. NewsDoc students and alumni have now won 10 Student Academy Awards in total.
Professor Meredith Broussard’s Book “More than a Glitch” Wins getAbstract’s International Book Award
"More Than a Glitch" won in the Business Impact category.
Professor Ellen Horne’s Podcast Admissible Wins Two Honors at 2023 Signal Awards
Professor Horne is the Executive Producer of the podcast, which examines the role of forensic evidence in the U.S legal system. Admissible won a gold award for documentary, and a listener's choice award.
Yucheng Tang (Literary Reportage 2024) is Awarded Two Scholarships
Tang is a 2022 Scholarship awardee from the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in the United States. He was also awarded the Richard Pyle Scholarship from the Overseas Press Club Foundation, in recognition of his work covering current events in China.
Two News and Documentary Students Will Win Medals at the 2023 Student Academy Awards
This year's medalists are Lyuwei Chen and Giorgio Ghiotto.
Sharon Guynup (SHERP 1998) named NYU Alumni Changemaker of the Year
Sharon Guynup (SHERP 1998) won the honor for her investigative stories shining a light on threats to tigers and other at-risk animals all over the world. She also recently co-founded Big Cat Voices, a film, photography, and storytelling nonprofit focusing on protecting the world's big cats and the lands they inhabit.
New York Magazine publishes longform work supported by Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award
Dan Xin Huang’s article looks at school segregation and class in Athens, Ohio. Huang was the Power Award runner-up in 2020.
Alumni Lyuwei Chen and Giorgio Ghiotto Named Finalists for the 2023 Student Academy Awards
Chen and Ghiotto are both Class of 2023 News and Documentary graduates.
Journalism Venture Capital Fund provides seed money for new major projects
The Ethics and Journalism Initiative, proposed by Stephen Adler, will tackle ethical issues in journalism with a focus on AI, political coverage, and privacy. A new summer journalism workshop proposed by Jason Samuels and Keyana Smith seeks to address the low number of Black male students and professionals in journalism.
