Marianne D. Mattera MedPage Today SHERP Scholarship Fund

sherp-marianne-mattera

The late Marianne D. Mattera was an award-winning medical journalist and the managing editor of MedPage Today.

The Marianne D. Mattera MedPage Today SHERP Scholarship Fund was established in 2014 through the generosity of MedPage Today and friends and family of the late Marianne Mattera, a distinguished medical journalist and the managing editor of MedPage Today. The fund provides tuition-remission scholarships to SHERP students who show exceptional promise in medical journalism. During her 30-plus year career as a medical journalist, Marianne Mattera won a record 18 awards from the Association of Business Information and Media Companies. She was a wise mentor to many young journalists, and in that spirit her colleagues have established this fund.

Sandy Ong was our first Mattera SHERP scholar, and Ashley Lyles our second. Our ability to designate future scholars will depend on future contributions, so please consider supporting the Mattera Fund. Supporters may contribute online via this secure site (please click ‘other’ on the drop-down menu in response to ‘I would like to make my gift to’ and then type in ‘Mattera SHERP Scholarship Fund, Journalism‘). Or you can send a check made out to New York University, with ‘Mattera SHERP Scholarship Fund’ written in the lower left corner. The address is: Marianne D. Mattera MedPage Today SHERP Scholarship Fund c/o Carter Journalism Institute, 20 Cooper Square, Sixth Floor, New York, NY 10003.

As with the Burrows Fund, every dollar contributed to the Mattera Fund goes to scholarships for SHERP students; there is no administrative overhead at all. Contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.
